Philosophy
The System records. You write.
SAGA is built on one belief: what you do matters more than what you intend to do. Everything beyond that is yours to decide.
You choose what to believe. The System records what you actually do.
The identity trap
Many habit apps eventually try to tell you who you are. “You’re a morning person now.” “You’ve become someone who reads.” It sounds like insight. It works as retention: it gives you a reason not to leave.
SAGA is built not to do this. An observation can describe what you did, how often, and for how long. It cannot declare who you are. That limit is part of how the product is designed, not a mood the System is in on a given day.
A witness, not a coach
A coach tells you what to do and how to feel about it. A witness watches, remembers, and tells you what it saw. The System is the second one.
It speaks in short sentences, in lines like “Quest complete. Recorded.” or “You returned.” It doesn’t celebrate every completion, and it doesn’t perform concern when you disappear. It says less than you expect. That is the rule.
Firm with the record. Respectful to the person.
There are rules, and the rules have consequences. Miss enough days and it costs XP. But the firmness is aimed at the record, never at your worth. No guilt. No “we miss you.” The System makes returning possible. It doesn’t beg for it.
Streaks break. Stories don’t. Return is still part of the story.
Participation, not uniformity
SAGA starts you with three commitments: Training, Meditation, Reading. They aren’t a claim about the only worthwhile things to do. They are three broad ways of showing up: maintain your body, maintain your mind, learn something.
You don’t have to do all three. Any one is enough for the day to count. The System is neutral about which philosophy you follow. It is not neutral about whether you do something.
What the System will not do
- Tell you how to live.
- Manufacture enthusiasm.
- Interpret your emotions.
- Rewrite the record to make you feel better.
- Reward you at random.
- Rank you against other people. There is no social layer in this version.
- Tell you who you are.
The honest limit
A record only becomes valuable if you stay long enough for it to accumulate. We don’t yet have proof that this works at scale. SAGA is early and in a closed beta, and that proof has to come from people staying and returning, not from us saying so.
SAGA is built by one developer in India. If you want to challenge any of this, write to support@sagasystem.in.
